Dream House Concept, 2018
I remember that year hit me very deeply. The year before was full of perturbation, a feeling of failure, losing faith in my path, and life drama, as you can imagine. So I disconnected from the world for about six months.
During that time, I was working on my Interior Design diploma, but I was also slowly reevaluating my space, my relationships, and myself. I cut myself off from the industry and stayed at my grandmother’s country house, away from distractions. I was mostly in contact only with my mum and my grandmother. And then this house came to my mind.
The concept explores a single-storey white house with curved forms, high ceilings, glass, garden, water, and a quiet façade that opens into generous private spaces.
I designed it while I was completing my Interior Design diploma. It was inspired by a plot of land in a neighbourhood of early 20th-century German villas. I was drawn to this specific plot because it clearly felt as though it had once been part of the garden of the house next to it, before being divided.
The whole area was full of greenery - quiet, private, and relaxing. Across the street, there was a small inner park with a pond in the middle, surrounded by houses. The shape of the land and its location instantly pushed my imagination towards white Art Deco houses in Los Angeles, and towards the idea of a single-storey house with curves.
From the front, I wanted the house to feel modest and slightly hidden. Not loud. Not showing everything at once. But behind that quiet façade, it would open into generous spaces with very high ceilings, light, glass, art, water, and garden.
Dream House WH is an unrealised architectural and interior design concept developed in 2018 as part of my Interior Design diploma.
